EBL was retained to design a service to handle a building load of 80 to 100 VA per square foot for a total load of approximately 100 MVA. This required close coordination with the local utility to determine the supply availability, routing of service, duct bank and manhole construction, utility-developer agreements and selection of service voltage and primary switchgear.
EBL also designed an internal distribution system. Because of the need to supply a number of different size tenants with varying load requirements and requirements for UPS systems and standby generators over a large area, it was determined that the best approach was to install a number of smaller substations throughout the building rather than a few large centrally located ones. Also, utility constraints on primary overcurrent protection limited the size of the substations.
EBL also designed mechanical systems for building tenants including the State of Maryland MDE labs and fit-outs for the MD State Lottery.
