Fire Protection Engineering Services Delivery Contract, General Services Administration, National Capital Region
EBL performed fire protection engineering services for this indefinite delivery contract, including the following tasks:

Perform submittal reviews for compliance with project contract plans and specifications

Provide fire protection design review services for projects in any or all stages of design

Provide consulting services on a variety of fire protection issues
-
Provide fire protection review of building condition reports, building evaluation reports, prospectus development studies and other related studies and reports which relate to fire protection

Acceptance testing of new fire protection systems
-
Evaluate existing fire protection systems, which may include a water supply analysis and coordination with the local water supply authority
-
Prepare new and review existing guide specifications
-
Respond to assistance requests (problem solving, exiting problems, evaluation of potentially hazardous situations, etc.) from building managers and or construction engineers/ representatives, inspectors, etc.

Provide water supply analyses, preparation of and/or review of sprinkler system hydraulic calculations
-
Perform building exit calculations including but not limited to NFPA 101A analysis

Attend meetings representing the GSA, as its authority having jurisdiction, relative to fire protection issues in new and/or existing structures

Investigate fires within government owned or leased space and providing written reports as required/requested
-
Provide fire protection design services in the form of plans and specifications
Miscellaneous plan/shop drawing reviews and consultations which occurred under this contract include: Mega Control Center Shop Drawing Review; National Archives II Inergen System Review; JW Powell Building; Federal Lab Project; T. Roosevelt Building Plan Review; DOE HQs' Kitchen System Review; Mary Switzer Building; Construct Vault 1701, National Archives II Clean Agent & Fire Alarm Shop Drawing Review; and the Cohen Building 1st Floor Review.
Additional projects completed under this contract include:

Building Evaluation Reports, Various Locations: surveyed five buildings and reported on all fire protection systems and rated the findings

Washington National Records Center: performance of acceptance test of newly installed fire sprinkler system

Federal Office Building 10-A: functional testing of approximately 240 smoke detectors located throughout the building

HOLC Building, Federal Bureau of Prisons: functional testing of new fire alarm system throughout the building, including operational testing of all new devices, circuits, panels, batteries and other equipment

Mega Control Center: sprinkler acceptance testing

Elevator Hoistway Smoke Detector Study: researched code change that prohibits the installation of elevator hoistway smoke detectors unless the hoistway is sprinkler protected

Copper Fire Sprinkler Piping Study: researched pros/cons of copper piping in sprinkler systems; compared cost/life expectancy to steel piping
