The Jewish Community Center of Baltimore, Park Heights and Owings Mills, MD Locations

EBL has provided mechanical, electrical and fire protection engineering services for a variety of new additions and renovation projects for the Jewish Community Center, at both their Park Heights and Owings Mills locations.

The first of the projects was undertaken in the fall of 1998 at the Owings Mills campus. The work consisted of the renovation of an existing 9,000 square foot gymnasium and the construction of facilities including a 7,500 square foot gymnasium, a 5,000 square foot fitness center and a 5,000 square foot area encompassing childcare, offices and a lobby area. All areas were served by separate split-system type air conditioning configured for special humidity controls, if desired. The new gymnasium HVAC was designed for both normal gym activities as well as special community events with up to 300 occupants. This project was completed in March 2000. While the first project was still underway, design was commenced for renovations of approximately 8,500 square feet of classroom areas on the upper floor of the original building, to be used as a teen lounger, offices and miscellaneous activity areas. Construction of these renovations were completed in April of 2001. Miscellaneous additional projects such as the construction of a maintenance shop in areas previously used for aerobics exercises and the renovation of the main men's and women's toilet and locker facilities were recently constructed. The existing preschool wing, at Owings Mills, was renovated and expanded from 1,120 square feet to 27,000 square feet. Work on the new portion was completed in August of 2001 and the renovation work was completed by the end of 2001. The facility's new baseball stadium completer with grandstands, dugouts, etc. was also complete with grandstands, dugouts, etc. was also constructed.

Studies were begun in the spring of 1999 for several renovation projects to be undertaken at the Park Heights facility. A new fitness center was contemplated, as well as the renovation of the existing fitness center, air conditioning of the existing gymnasium and the provision of family dressing areas. Final design work on these projects were completed in the summer of 2000. Design for nearly complete renovations of that facility as well as design of a substantial classroom and office additions were also completed.
