Riggs Alumni Center, University of Maryland, College Park, MD

 

EBL designed full plumbing, ventilation and fuel distribution and storage for gas service for the new 60,000 SF building.  The center is heated and cooled via VAV with chilled water and heating water. An innovative approach to the HVAC, power and IT distribution systems utilizes a raised floor throughout the office building. Electrically, the building was provided with high voltage service at 13.2 KV, with transformation from 13.2 KV to low voltage (277/480V, 3P, 4W) service. The interior lighting is a combination of direct and indirect lighting with energy efficient T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts. HID lighting is provided for special areas such as large meeting rooms and conference areas as well as exterior landscaping and parking lot illumination. The building is fully sprinklered for fire protection and a new alarm and detection system was installed.
