This project was completed in two phases: the first was a detailed study while the second was the actual design of a fire protection system.
The detailed study dealt with identifying jurisdiction requirements and limitations and the preliminary phased design parameters for the retrofit of a new fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system. Several coordination meeting were held with the MDGS, the Office of the State Fire Marshall and the MD Historical Trust (MHT) to provide the fundamental design approach for the fire protection system with regard to historically significant areas.
The design phase included complete completed detailed piping layout drawings of the new and existing fire protection system piping. This design approach allowed all interested parties to review actual pipe locations and routing, identify interior and exterior walls and ceilings that would be disturbed during construction and provide a more accurate and defined drawing bid set, thus safeguarding against additional construction costs or damage to finishes that werent anticipated.
