Renewable Solutions
We take an active role in promoting energy conservation on all of our projects and are thoroughly familiar with energy analysis and life cycle costing procedures. We have a long history in applying renewable energy/resource technologies in projects.

LEED Design
We have LEED accredited professionals who have addressed LEED requirements for a variety of projects. Our work on the NIST Net Zero Energy Residential Test Facility, LEED Platinum Certified, won the 2014 ACEC Engineering Excellence Award.

Energy Service Performance Contracts
We have considerable experience working in partnership with ESCOs (Energy Service Companies). We have undertaken numerous projects with regional ESCOs.  All of these projects have centered on the replacement and improvement of existing equipment and building systems. We complete an evaluation of energy conservation measures and life cycle cost analysis, along with computer modeling to determine energy usage baselines.  Subsequently, we design improvements or replacements to be constructed by the ESCO.  Our team provides the full spectrum of solutions from analysis and design to financing and construction administration.

NIST Net Zero Concept House, Gaithersburg, MD

The Net Zero Energy Residential Test Facility (NZERTF) was designed to demonstrate the viability of the Net Zero Energy concept for a residential structure that is similar in size and aesthetics to the surrounding homes in the Gaithersburg, MD area.

As engineering consultants for this project, we provided design, construction drawings, and specifications for HVAC (conventional and geothermal), Electrical, Photovoltaic Generation, Plumbing, Solar Thermal Domestic Water Heating and Fire Sprinkler Systems suitable for a public bid process.

The NZERTF generates as much energy on an annual basis as it consumes when operated in a manner that mimics a residence occupied by a family of four. It is used as a lab for testing various building energy technologies by the Building Fire and Research Laboratory (BFRL) of NIST. The HVAC and electrical designs incorporate the initial requirements as well as the future requirements for the energy technologies testing laboratory. Additional requirements for air-tightness, indoor air quality and LEED for Homes were met.

This project was certified LEED Platinum.
